What is Applied Research
Applied research is often a misunderstood term and is quite different from basic research. Basic research is a form of inquiry aimed simply at expanding knowledge and understanding of a topic. Conversely, applied research seeks to address a real world (i.e., practical) problem or issue. Applied research includes endeavours such as program evaluation, program development, job analysis, and employee and customer satisfaction surveys just to name a few. Applied research can be conducted in the public and private sectors and for both profit and not-for-profit organizations.
Conducting applied research requires experienced investigators who can adapt the research design according to the constraints of the real world. Most often applied research cannot be conducted in the resource rich and controlled environment that would be available at a University for example. Instead, applied research is subject to time, budget, data, and political constraints.
At ASC, you can take advantage of our consulting services to help ensure your process of inquiry is sound and will produce meaningful results. Further, if you do not have the time and/or the knowledge to conduct applied research, ASC can provide complete services to meet you project needs from start to finish.
